"The least impressive frontage to any ground I've been to."

has rated Boundary Park 3.0 out of 5.

derek-hart's review of Boundary Park

I've been to Boundary Park a couple of times and on both trips it was a little odd with only 3 sides of the ground used. The first time there was just a void, the second time the shell of the new stand.

Once complete the new stand will add to a decent third level footy ground, but one can't help thinking the sparse crowds will look and feel even smaller spread over four stands not three. Maybe it will signal a surge of local support who knows.

As the title of this review suggests, the 'main stand' from the outside looks un impressive, in fact unlike a football ground.... Just looks like a section of houses from the set of Coronation Street...., this is the main stand of the ground I'm talking about, not houses near by.

Despite that on the inside (and imagining the new stand done) it's a tidy ground for the level Oldham are playing I .

Location

Although signage was brill, once you near parking was abundant and night expensive.

Decent access to motorways, it didn't take long at all to get to the M60 or M62 when departing. When leaving the car park behind the 'new' stand it is a big of a free for all, several lanes on a bumpy pot-holed surface blending into two - or three if you want to run the gauntlet of going the wrong way down a one way street briefly!

View

Decent views from the two parts of the ground I went to. The paddock in the main stand may bit exposed in the rare occasions when it rains in Oldham.

Facilities

About average, toilets were okay, didn't make a lasting impression so I deduce they weren't disgusting nor smelling like an alpine meadow.

Food & Drink

Usual drinks and snack available.... Coffee was hot, very hot. No queues to speak of.

Police & Stewards

Didn't see the police much at all, but stewards were friendly - a coupe having a big of a chat with me outside the ground.

Atmosphere

Before the game outside the ground it was really good, lots of Morcambe supporters wearing their colours mixing with the locals. Inside it was a bit flat in terms of atmosphere against Morecambe but it was a shocking game which the home team nicked 1-0.

The other game a few years prior (against Peterborough) was a better match but the hone supporters I recall were quite vocal about how they felt Oldham were playing.... I thought a bit overly critical but perhaps it had been a long season for them!
