"Good small town football ground with distinctive features"

has rated Bellsdale Park 4.0 out of 5.

davidapattison-67's review of Bellsdale Park

Although immediate access to the ground is difficult, once inside the facilities are good and the tight surrounds make this an atmospheric stadium. Viewing is on the whole good from any part of the terracing and watching how teams cope with the sloping and undulating pitch adds to the entertainment.

Location

Bellsdale park is a short, 5 minute downhill (steep) walk from Beith town centre. The entry to the Park is located either by a narrow lane between houses or along past the adjacent astro turf public facility, but can be difficult to see from the main access road from the town centre. Car parking is in the surrounding streets and there is none at the ground. Bus services from Glasgow, Paisley and Kilwinning pass through the town centre, but Beith does not have a railway station.

View

There is an unobstructed view of the playing pitch from any part of the ground. There is no seating and shelter is provided in standing enclosures running the full length of one side of the pitch. The concrete terracing around the ground is shallow but is stepped allowing a clear view of the pitch, except when there is a crowd around the touchline when it becomes difficult to see the action along the nearside touchline.

Note lengthwise the pitch has quite a steep slope and has the added characteristic of several undulations at points along its length.

Facilities

There is a relatively new toilet block housing gents and ladies toilets - the gents was very clean and well supplied with paper towels. Queuing was necessary when a large number of spectators are at matches

Food & Drink

Usual variety of hot and cold snacks and drinks at fair prices, but again queues build up quickly at matches attracting large crowds. There is also a members club serving alcoholic drinks

Police & Stewards

The match I attended was a Scottish Cup Quarter Final against rivals in the same league and from a town c.15 miles away, but there was no police presence at the match. Stewarding was priovided by the club and they were friendly and helpfulu

Atmosphere

Because of confined nature of the stadium and the closeness of spectators to the pitch the atmosphere was good with both the local and away supporters loudly encouraging their teams.
