bigaitch has rated Moor Lane 4.0 out of 5.
I attended early season 2019/20 to re complete the 92, for a game v Cheltenham Town. I normally despise clubs that have been bank rolled through the leagues, seeking the holy grail of league 2, but having been to Moor Lane I came away pleasantly surprised at how much I had enjoyed it.
It started off with the purchase of my ticket online a week or so beforehand, £10 to watch league 2 football - They have not increased the prices for over two years, these were the same as was being charged in Conference North. Even better, it is not a special price, that is the cost for all games that season, concessions get in for a fiver.
That and the fact the ground has been upgraded spectacularly and there was a decent and friendly atmosphere led me to believe that if I was a local, I would be a more than occasional visitor.
Probably the one downside of the ground is it’s location. It is in the middle of pleasant outer sue urban housing without much in the way of amenities nearby, and the public transport service best described as irregular. However, a park and ride system operates in a fairly small trading estate which was only £3 for parking and a return bus trip direct to and from the stadium. It got fairly busy, and having arrived at 1.30 for a 3 pm kick off I nabbed one of the last spaces.
The lack of chippies and pubs nearby is compensated very well inside the ground.
I stood in the hone end, a new covered terrace with a decent rake. It afforded a good view in spite of it being well populated.
Significant number of toilets behind the home terrace that were clean.
This is where the ground comes into its own. Behind the terrace are a series of converted haulage containers with the standard footy fare of burgers / hot dogs etc and coffees and others selling curry , sweets and a couple selling beers too. I had a burger and a coffee which was nice and the service prompt and friendly.
Saw a couple of police officers who seemed to be present as a token presence and they seemed to be friendly enough. Stewards likewise looked like they could handle themselves and would probably be on the doors in pubs and clubs later on, but were really friendly and approachable.
Atmosphere was good. Salford don’t have a really big hard core of fans just yet, there were many folk wearing shirts of other local sides, from varying levels. However there were a group who sung throughout the game and got behind their sides even though they did not really perform in what amounted to their first defeat in the EFL.
