bigaitch has rated Borough Park 4.0 out of 5.
The headline of my review is not meant in a disparaging way, far from it. Borough Park is a ground that is old school with its swathes of terracing and truncated main stand housing the dressing rooms, social club and directors lounge. However, what remains is generally in really good condition, even the terracing in what is a very old ground , and that is a great credit to the club and those who love it. Red paint, the clubs colours is splashed liberally and it makes for a great visit. They just didn’t make grounds like this anymore - and that is a shame.
Very near to the town centre, and the railway station but also easily approached by road, there are not many grounds better placed.
Excellent view from the terracing behind both goals .
Plenty of cover and seating and terracing that is raised.
Options in the Tiny Hopper bar, named after a former player who sadly died through illness are plentiful and judging by the portions and the amount of locals eating them, they are popular. The pie and chips, with gravy, looked lovely - a shame I had eaten prior to the game. Loads of options in the bar too.
Stewards were very friendly. One approached my mate and I an asked if we were visiting fans (away) and having told him we were hoppers he spoke to a colleague who showed us into the Shankly lounge , named in honour of, and opened by Bill Shankly who cut his managerial teeth at the ground. That continued in the ground where after asking a steward where the supporters shop was, was happy to walk us to it and point out where we could get food and drink too.
Passionate but friendly fans at Borough Park - thoroughly enjoyed my trip. If Carlsberg did football grounds....
