SC Paderborn 07 v SV Sandhausen 1916 (Bundesliga 2) 14th August 2015
The Benteler Arena is a modern ground and perfect for the lower league team, with their current gates. Excellent free parking, good facilities and good sight lines, making for a good football experience.
The ground is another new out of town venue, but close to main roads. There is a massive free car park and a cycle rack that could house a 1000 bikes, literally. There is a massive department store next to the ground, well worth a visit on it's own, some of the designer kitchen were outstanding. Even though the car park is large, it is well marshalled and we drove out without queueing. The visiting supporters have their own segregated car park.
Excellent sightlines, as expected of a modern ground. Standing areas for the vocal supporters. Good seats with good leg room.
Good toilets, very clean. Free programme that was available from displays on the pillars under the stand.
Good food outlets, well priced and a decent club shop.
Lower Police presence than at other German matches that I have been to. Stewards and staff all helpful, many spoke excellent English.
Very vocal local supporters, who sang throughout despite getting thumped six-nil. Apparently some of the songs were complaining about the cost of tickets, given the standard of performance. I sat next to a German referee, who used to live in England, so we spent the game chatting away. My wife chatted equally well to a couple next to her. Chatting to the local fans was brilliant to put the club, ground, etc., into context.
