albertherring has rated Fratton Park 3.5 out of 5.
The away end is, as others have written, a bit on the shabby side, but given the club's recent financial issues it's unlikely to improve that much soon. But the overall experience is good, proper ground in a proper football town. Would have been better if we hadn't lost, mind.
Looks easy by train; easy to find by road but a bit jammed up and street parking is a bit iffy - go by train. Decent pubs nearby, Brewers' Arms seemed happy to serve a mix of home and away fans.
Away end seats are narrow and on an old terrace, so awkward steps in places. Would be better left as a terrace. Open back to stand, so probably cold in the winter.
Substantial urinal in a separate space to the main gents, badly signposted and empty at half time; main gents had a queue. Ladies looked a bit exposed.
Stewards amiable and helpful, police not a problem. One ejection for no obvious reason

They sang when they were winning. Drums and the famous bell were far enough away not to be painful. The fat bloke in the north stand appeared to thrive on the attention he got.
No problems or threatening atmosphere encountered around the ground for a family group with some away colours showing.
