"Probably what you expect from an old ground"

has rated Brunton Park 2.5 out of 5.

ajimofalltrades' review of Brunton Park

I think the ground looks like a classic old stadium and I loved the look of the main stand with a lower terrace that stretches the whole length of the pitch. That stand was packed out and looked amazing, but despite this there wasn't so much of an atmosphere and as an away fan I felt that we tucked away in the corner out of the way.

For an old old ground, I think the stadium is well maintained but with no thrills about it. The only thing that did really disappoint me was that the food was a bit pricey and not particularly good, though I'm willing to accept that I may have caught them on a bad day.

Location

As always, I traveled by train and the ground was quite a nice little walk from the station, though it was a gorgeous sunny day. The town itself seems quite pleasant. Once getting to the ground the signage and way finding for the away fans isn't great and I had to ask for directions as the obvious main entry that you first come to is not where you need to go as an away fan.

View

The view and the seating are o.k. There are no obstructive views, though you are tucked away in a corner which is not somewhere where I particularly enjoy watching a game from. There was quite a significant gap between away fans and home fans which meant that much of the atmosphere doesn't carry.

Facilities

Everything seemed to be in order, there were no queues for the toilets. It's quite an old stand but it seems very well maintained and there is loads of space under the stand hang around in. There are no TV screens or other facilities.

Food & Drink

I'm afraid to say that in this instance the food and drink was poor. The hot dog I had before the game was quite small and tasteless. I had a burger at half time to see if it was any better and it was slightly better. I had a cup of tea that was seriously over stewed. It was also more expensive than the food at Orient, where I would expect to pay more as a London club. The catering staff were, however, delightful.

Police & Stewards

The staff were quite helpful when I asked for directions.

Atmosphere

For the first game of the season I was expecting a much better atmosphere, but unfortunately the Carlisle fans never got going except for venting some anger and mock applause at the officials. To be fair they didn't have much to sing about though.
