Fezookaka's review of Millmoor

Putting nostalgia to one side, the best thing you could say about the old girl is was an old school organically grown ground with 'character'. It was a proper old fashioned crap hole. I loved the place up until seats went in on the terraces. That ruined the feel of the place.
The atmosphere could be something else at times. Terraces were close up to the pitch.
You might find this hard to believe, if you have been, but this was really one of the better grounds in the league in the 80's. It was substantially covered, which you couldn't say about a lot of places. Back then you just wanted a roof, half decent view and a bovril.
The toilets were the most basic you could get. Dark, small and it consisted of a black painted wall with a narrow gulley at the bottom ! (the ones under the Tovoli that is)

Location

Close to town centre in the Masborough district (which used to be an independent town back in t'day) It was a stones throw away from the (now closed / demolished) Masborough railway station.
There were 13 pubs within half a mile (all in Masbro') plus a transport workers club. Fantastic location for practicality.
It was a pretty location though. Surrounded by railway, scrap yards, or metal works on 3 sides, with a cinema, shops, railway station to the other.
Its all about the pubs though if we are being honest isn't it. This was one of the top locations for drinking holes. They were proper holes as well. Great stuff

View

Depends on your height, 5'7 and above your fine, below and your struggling in the terrace days. It was fine.

Facilities

Shocking, very poor toilets,

Food & Drink

Poor food / drink option. Minimalist. The pukka pies were v good. One of the first grounds to have them. They seem ordinary now but pies were bloody awful at most grounds back then.
Everyone just bought sausage rolls or pies.

Police & Stewards

South Yorkshire - what do you think !!!!!!

Atmosphere

Wide ranging from quiet at some games during boring times in the clubs history - like 1984-88, mid 90's.
It could raucous and hostile for away teams a lot of the time. I remember (seating era this too) West Ham in the 2nd tier early 2000's getting a right old roasting from 3 side of the ground. They were just from the Prem and didn't fancy it one bit. Millers 1 Wh 0. the crowd played a big part in that win.
