BMH has rated Silver Street 3.0 out of 5.
A ground I've noticed when passing by on the nearby M62, first time visit in person.
People may get 'sniffy' about basic grounds such as this, but for me this is grassroots football at its best. Friendly hard working volunteers, with a modern club house that no doubt provides some of the finances to keep the club going. Great stuff
Straightforward enough to get to. Train to Irlam Station then a 1/2 hour to 3/4 hour walk to the ground. Whilst preparing the ground for the game the staff let me in to have a wander round, and as the bar wasn't open ( was 2 hours early ) suggested the Tiger Moth pub on the nearby estate, which was ok.
Unobstructed views on all 4 sides of the ground. One covered stand behind one goal and the Ian Street Stand (seated) along one side by the club house.
The Shack - a busy kiosk selling hot and cold snack and hot/cold drinks.
The 1935 Clubhouse & Bar was also very busy. Spacious, plenty of seating (all taken up), couple of TV's on the walls, decent bar, friendly staff & supporters.
£2 for a decent programme.
Decent - as mentioned above from both 'The Shack' kiosk outside and the 1935 Clubhouse & Bar.
No police, but all the stewards were decent sorts.
No atmosphere as such, but the welcome was warm & genuine.
