BMH's review of Anchor Ground

It always helps when the team your watching wins, but that aside, have only positive comments about the visit to the Anchor Ground. More than just a little history about the club as one of the very early Football League members, about which 'The English Game' series on Netflix was largely about (well worth watching). FCIOM went a goal down before half time, but a couple of astute subs saw a second half comeback to win comfortably 4-1 and progress to eventually win the cup. Great day out, very friendly staff/club.

Location

Ferry from IoM , then easy journey along the M6. Ground is located within minutes of the motorway, so we arrived in plenty of time.

View

One long covered terrace with seating alongside the side of the pitch. Three open terraces - all with good views of the ground.

Facilities

Excellent club house, with another in the process of being built.

Food & Drink

Good food, decent pint in the busy bar. An added bonus was the availability of pizzas from behind the goal. Using a small portable pizza maker, and sheltered by a gazebo (weather was ok any way) I had a piping hot pepperoni, although spent more time talking to the staff about the clubs efforts to get its original name back of Darwen FC - following a decade being known as AFC Darwen.
