Belgian Pro League team Sporting Charleroi have been given the go-ahead for their much-anticipated new stadium.
The club had been planning to build a new ground since 2019, but has seen several years of delay due to factors including Covid-19. But the plan is now back on track after the council granted planning permission and building permits required.
The 20,000 seater stadium will be built on wasteland in Marchienne-au-Pont to the west of the city centre at a cost of around �70m.
Work is expected to start in 2025. It is hoped that Sporting will start the 2026/27 season in their new stadium.
