River Plate return to El Monumental after stadium works completed

South American footballing giants River Plate have returned home to their El Monumental stadium, following the completion of renovation work.

The stadium now features what the club are calling the "best playing field in South America" after a new hybrid pitch was installed.

The club have also committed to bringing fans closer to the action with the removal of the running track around the pitch. Other improvements include the removal of fencing and a new players' tunnel. In total, the club has invested around Â£1.6m in the ground improvements.

Either the first stage completed, the club will now move onto increasing the stadium's capacity from 74,000 to 80,000.
