First Game

Arsenal 1-1 Tottenham, Premier League, 29th April 1995.
I sat in the East Stand at Highbury with my mum, a second generation Arsenal fan from the sixties and seventies, and my little brother who is a Spurs fan due to peer pressure from the other kids who lived in our street.

Ian Wright scored a penalty past Ian Walker for us and I think Klinsmann equalised. I remember the programme having David Seaman on the cover after his penalty saves against Sampdoria in the Cup Winners Cup Semi Final! I have it and plan to frame it. The ticket is attached to a framed Arsenal shirt from 2005/06 (commerorative Highbury kit) that my brother gave to me...

Best Game

Boca Juniors 1-2 River Plate
5 minutes after Riquelme's magical freekick the atmosphere was at such a level that a tear came to my eye. I cried in La Bombonera and it inspired me to write about my experiences living in South America and the football down there. (If you want to check it out @BomboneraTears)

A.C. Milan 0-2 Arsenal, Champions League, March 2008.
My first European away game started at Gatwick Airport at 4am on a Tuesday or Wednesday morning. We had drawn the home tie 0-0 and everybody thought that favoured Milan (Wenger knows better- home team must attack, the power of the away goal). Dan, Doug and I spent the day in Milan city centre, at Duomo Cathedral and the square around it with some pints, singing and chatting to local fans before making our way to the San Siro. We were with the Arsenal Travel Club and had a police escort to the stadium, due to the recent history between English and Italian clubs - shame really, because the atmosphere between our fans and theirs was very good. But it meant we didn't get to walk around the San Siro and experience the general atmosphere as we were ushered straight into the ground.

It was March and whilst the day had been warm in the sun (15 degrees) the evening was very cold! I only had a jumper with me :S.

The game was close but we were on top. Then Cesc unleashed from 35 yards!! The away goal was ours and Milan had to push hard to have any chance of getting to the quarters. Theo Walcott then came on, ran a long way at a fast pace and laid off a perfect pass to some lanky, clumsy striker (Can't remember his name today) who scored to make it 2-0.

One thing that will stay with me a long time is the way the Milan fans acknowledged our support at the end of the game. We were behind panes of glass/perspex on an upper tier but as they were leaving a lot of fans in our end would clap towards us and congratulate us on the win. Thanks AC Milan.

We had to wait an hour after the final whistle before we could leave but the club put on an Arsenal DVD whilst we were waiting and it made the bitterly cold weather a little more bearable...

We got back to Gatwick at 3am the next day. A brilliant 24hours:)

Close 2nd: River Plate vs Lanus, 1-1, worth a mention for the attitude, passion and atmosphere created by the home fans. Interestingly, and in contradiction to Europe, it was the HOME fans who had to wait an hour after the final whistle before they could leave. I guess it was to give the away fans a head start...

Close 3rd: Beijing Guo'an game at Fengtai Stadium in China...

Worst Game

2-0 up at Wigan with a chance of winning the league, 12 minutes to go yet somehow we leave empty handed. Long five-hour drive home

Read why in @BomboneraTears
