The first home match I went to was Coventry vs Arsenal at Highfield Road, would have been the 1992/93 season. I was seven and I don't think I took it in that much, my brother and i spent most of our time that season mishearing and regurgitating songs and chants, e.g. "Score Goalie!" (Sky Blue Army), and demanding cheseburgers during play. It was 1-0 to the Arse, I recall.
My first away game was at the Dell, for a 0-0 draw with Southampton. Jonny Gould played a blinder to keep a clean sheet- my abiding memory of the game is the whole away section stamping in rhythm on the wooden terracing! Crap grounds have the most character.
Hands down most satisfying match was CCFC v Man Utd during the 1997/98 season. Huckerby scored in the dying minutes with a (then) trademark mazy run, making the Utd defenders look like a pub team. Other highlights include several wins over Chelsea during the Premiership days, the Euro '96 semi against Germany (the atmosphere was incredible), 5-0 at home to Blackburn when they were champions (in the snow!) and, most recently, 3-2 away at Watford- cracking comeback, 3-2.
Prize for most depressing goes to last game of our relegation season against Bradford City-
Us: "Going down, going down, going down..."
Them: "So are we, so are we, so are we..."
Rochdale away in the Cup was a bloody awful day, too.
Hard to choose, but WHL staff were top notch, replacing a dropped hotdog for free.
I really wanted to choose one of the generic new stadiums (like the Ricoh!!!) but it's impossible to choose just one! I chose Priestfield out of annoyance that, at the time I went, all of the home stands were comfy and modern, whilst the away end was some concrete on the side of a hill.
