About cranium82

First Game

My first ever game was when I was 7 years old - my Dad and Uncle took me, my brother and my cousin to see York City V Carlisle United in the old Division 4. I remember the game well, the main memory being suprised they had changed ends at half time. I thought they were stupid trying to score in their own goals for the first 5 minutes of the second half until Dad told me what was happening. I also remember eating a Wagon Wheel for the first time in my life, and Chris Marples, the York goalkeeper, diving to save a ball which was blocked by a defender. I thought it was highly amusing that he had just dived for no reason.

Best Game

The best game I have ever seen, and I am biased, is the Everton v Spurs game in December 2009. We were 2-0 down at home to a decent Spurs outfit, and not looking like we were going to get back into the game. However, a mini revival of Cahill and Saha brought it back to 2-2 and we were ecstatic until, in the 92nd minute, Hibbert brought down a Spurs player (Defoe I think) and conceeded a penatly. However, the mighty Tim Howard made a wonder save from the spot and we earnt a 2-2 draw.

Worst Game

Unquestionably, and I've been to some drab games on cold evenings on my own in the middle of nowehere, but nothing will top York City v Grimsby Town in the 90's at Christmas time. It was cold, it was 0-0 and there wasnt a shot on goal. It was dreadful, and will always be remembered as the worst game of football I have ever seen.

Everyone at Charlton was friendly. It has kept some of it's unique features in this ever changing world of football stadia, where they all look the same. It has been well modernised, yet the away stand is still on it's own with the fans raised above ground level. I was in the amin stand and it was great seeing the hoards of people make their way down to the stadium from the top of the steps. It was a vibrant atmosphere and a thoroughly enjoyable day out.

I'm from Plymouth, and I am not a fan of new stadia. They are all the same, lacking in charachter and there is always very little atmosphere. At Argyle, even in the successful era of th mid 2000's, the atmosphere is pretty much non-existant. The ground is too big and never gets filled - it almost has an eerie silence to it whenever I have been. I'd rather go and watch Torquay or Exeter each week.
