Worst Game

A match in the then called Auto Windscreens Shield between Shrewsbury and Hartlepool some time in the mid to late 90's still makes me shudder when I remember it. The venue was Gay Meadow on a freezing winter day. I think both teams had been knocked out of the FA Cup in round 1 so we were "treated" to a Saturday afternoon kick off to cover up yet another failure in the proper cup competition. About a thousand turned up to witness the dullest match I am sure they will ever see in their lives. Nothing happened until the 90th minute when Shrewsbury scored a penalty to win the match. By that point most had left, and for those still brave/stupid enough to still be there it did little to ease the unbearable pain from the cold and the sheer boredom. Strangely though, I miss days like that down the old Medder.

Solely for the pies. Best ever.

There are old grounds that have a certain romantic charm. And then there's Edgar Street.
