The Stadiums Hosting the FIFA World Cup 2026

The Stadiums Hosting the FIFA World Cup 2026

With 2025 now firmly underway, football fans can unanimously rejoice that sport's most prestigious tournament returns only next year. FIFA's upcoming competition is set to be the most expansive and exciting ever, with record matches and nations.

The revised format includes space for 16 additional teams, taking the tally to 48. This results in an additional 40 matches for fans to enjoy compared to Qatar.

Another break with tradition is the trio of host nations that will see the tournament span much of mainland North America. Fans will be welcomed to some of the continent's most iconic cities across the US, Canada and Mexico.

We take a closer look at a select few of the stadiums to welcome fans during the 39 day tournament.

The Hosting Nations

Only one previous World Cup has enjoyed multiple host nations, in 2002 when South Korea and Japan shared the honour. Next year's trio of hosts will be a tournament first.

The USA will bear the bulk of hosting duties, accounting for 11 of the 16 host cities. Three host cities are in Mexico and the remaining two in Canada.

The tournament has come at an important time for the continent, with interest in football booming in the US and Canada.

There is particular excitement in Canada, with the nation poised to host the tournament for the first time ever. Mexico will also make history with the 2026 World Cup, as the first nation to host a record third time.

Another focus of excitement for North American fans will be the ability to enjoy online gambling. The last time the tournament took place on the continent, the practice was still prohibited in both Canada and America.

Since then, online betting has been largely legalised across both nations, including nearly 40 US states and most of Canada. BonusFinder has detailed several of the best gambling sites for 2025, you can see their list here.

The Stadiums

With a significantly expanded total of 104 matches to play, next year's stadiums will see plenty of footballing action. Organisers have split the stadiums into Western, Central and Eastern regions to ensure they are fairly spread across the continent.

The sporting pedigree of the three host nations means there is no shortage of iconic stadiums. Here are some of the best that next year's tournament will have to offer.

AT & T Stadium (Texas, USA)

Located in Arlington Texas, this iconic venue has the largest capacity of any host stadium, able to accommodate 93,000 fans. Despite being known primarily as the home of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys, the stadium has also hosted several soccer events.

The CONCACAF Gold Cup has taken place there, as well as several Mexico national team matches. As recently as September last year, the stadium hosted a Mexico- Canada friendly in anticipation of the upcoming World Cup.

Estadio Azteca (Mexico City, Mexico)

This mammoth stadium will make history as the first to host a third World Cup, after 1970 and 1986. These two competitions saw arguably football's two greatest ever players in Pele and Maradona playing at the Azteca.

The 87,500-capacity stadium is the home of Club America and Cruz Azul of Mexico's domestic league. Located in Mexico City, this beloved venue is often regarded as one of world football's most famous.

Metlife Stadium (New Jersey, USA)

The Metlife Stadium has a limited history as a footballing venue, primarily known for American football and music. Several superstars have performed there, including Beyonce, Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift.

The stadium is home to several beloved New York American football teams, such as the Giants, Jet and Guardians. With a capacity of 87,000, it will be the third largest stadium at the tournament.

It notably hosted the 2016 Copa America Centenario, in which Chile upset Messi's Argentina on penalties. Fans will be hoping for an equally exhilarating contest this year, with the stadium poised to host the tournament final.

BC Place (Vancouver, Canada)

Canada's largest offering in terms of capacity, Vancouver's BC Place will host 11 matches across the tournament. A unique design with vibrant light-up displays makes it one of the competition's most aesthetic venues.

Its day job is as the home of the MLS's Vancouver Whitecaps and, on occasion, the Canada national team. The stadium is no stranger to important World Cup matches, having hosted the women's final in 2015.

BC Place can sit just under 55,000 people, making it the fourth smallest in the tournament.

Gearing up for the 2026 World Cup

With the largest tournament in world sport less than 18 months away, fans are finally able to start getting excited again. A historic trio of host nations will provide visiting fans ample opportunity to experience North America fully.

The tournament will take advantage of the best each country has to offer in terms of stadiums. Across the US, Canada and Mexico there are several iconic venues travelling fans are itching to visit.
