The Biggest Stadiums in the Premier League

The Biggest Stadiums in the Premier League

Premier League is the strongest domestic football competition on the planet. The quality of the players and teams involved, the staggering numbers in terms of global popularity, the phenomenal infrastructure, and the scintillating history are only some of the factors to go in the favor of the opening line of this article.

Today, we will keep the main attention on the infrastructural segment with the help of the football picks expert John Pentin, who works at betting picks website betting picks 4 you. More precisely, we will write about the best and the largest football stadiums in the English top flight. We are used to seeing these venues filled with crowds regardless of the teams involved in a game. Let's see which stadiums can host the largest number of fans.

1 - Old Trafford – Manchester United (75,653)

The theater where dreams become reality is located near an industrial area of Trafford Park. It was opened on February 19th, 1910 with a match between bitter cross-city rivals Manchester United and Liverpool. The visitors won it 3-4. Its largest attendance was seen in the FA Cup semifinal clash between Wolves and Grimsby Town with 76,962 fans. The stadium hosted the Champions League final just once, back in 2003 when Italian Serie A heavyweights Juventus and AC Milan played a boring goalless draw.

2 - London Stadium – West Ham United (62,500)

London Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium located six miles east of Central London. We also know it as the Olympic Stadium as it was built just for the 2012 Summer Olympics and Paralympic Games in London. Since then, the stadium has been renovated and it is currently the home to West Ham United. Interestingly, the venue also hosted the inaugural MLB match in Europe as New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox took on each other in a two-game series in 2019 there.

3 - Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – Tottenham (62,062)

The second-largest football stadium in the capital is located in north London and is home to Tottenham Hotspur. The venue opened on April 3rd, 2019 and it replaced Spurs' old home, White Hart Lane. Interestingly, the name was supposed to be only temporary to sell the rights to sponsors. However, here we are exactly four years since the opening and the stadium still carries the same name. What is particularly interesting about this stadium is the fact it was designed to serve as a multi-purpose stadium with a retractable pitch and a special turf field below it, created for NFL matches in London.

4 - Emirates Stadium – Arsenal (60.704)

Emirates Stadium still carries a massive burden as it still keeps failing to replace legendary Highbury. Highbury had been Arsenal’s home from 1913 to 2006. The last match played there was Arsenal’s 4-2 win over Wigan in a match marked by a Thierry Henry hat-trick. Highbury was then turned into an area with 860 apartments, while the grass became a city park. Emirates is a beautiful and much larger stadium (Highbury’s capacity was 38,500), but it does not have the soul. The results speak for themselves after all because Arsenal have only managed to win two FA Cup trophies in the first eight years at the Emirates. The team won two Premier League titles, and three FA Cup trophies, and played a Champions League final in the last six years at Highbury.

5 - Etihad Stadium – Manchester City (55,097)

The City of Manchester Stadium, or how we call it Etihad Stadium for sponsorship reasons, replaced Maine Road as the new Manchester City home in 2003. The Citizens dispatched Barcelona 2-1 in the grand opening. The stadium was renamed in 2011 when Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed bought Manchester City, making it one of the richest football clubs in the world. Since then, Manchester City have become a formidable force not just in English but in world football, attracting some of the best players in the game such as Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland, etc.
