Teams to watch in the 2022 World Cup

Teams to watch in the 2022 World Cup

We are already in World Cup month, and many fans are excited about the prospects of their respective nations lifting the trophy at the finals. Of course, only a handful of these teams are actually in contention to win the World Cup.

If you are partaking in 2022 FIFA World Cup betting, you are also likely to be interested in what teams are in pole position to win the trophy. Not to worry, we've got you covered. In this article, we will be considering some of the top teams to pay attention to in the 2022 World Cup. Let’s dive right in:

Belgium

Belgium has been one of the top FIFA-ranked teams in the past couple of years. A primary reason for this has been the emergence of their 'golden generation,' which took the team to the final of the last World Cup. However, this golden generation appears to have passed now, and Belgium will enter this World Cup edition in a transitional phase.

Do not mistake this to mean the Red Devils can be written off so quickly. The country's current lineup is still very formidable. The team has Kevin De Bruyne, arguably the best creative midfielder in the world. Other notable names include Lukaku, Hazard, Courtois, and Vertonghen. Provided these players can find their top form, Belgium remains a strong contender for the 2022 World Cup.

France

A list of teams to watch in the World Cup would not be complete without a mention of the defending champions. France would be looking to replicate the success it managed in the 2018 edition of the World Cup. One can argue that the team has the necessary resources to do just that.

With a team consisting of players such as Kylian Mbappe, Raphael Varane, Hugo Lloris, and the recent Ballon D'or winner Kareem Benzema, France has one of the strongest lineups in the tournament. Of course, injury concerns with players like N'golo Kante, Paul Pogba, and Jules Kounde cause doubt as to the ability of France to excel this year.

It will be interesting to see if Les Bleus suffers the same fate as the past four World Cup winners who failed to make it past the group stage in their trophy-defense campaigns.

Brazil

Brazil certainly has momentum on its side leading up to the 2022 World Cup. The country has already won the tournament five times in the past and would be looking to add a sixth trophy. They just might be able to pull that off. The team is currently ranked No. 1 in the world by FIFA and topped the South American qualifying round.

Brazil has lost only a single match since 2020. Similarly, the talent in the squad is undeniable with players like Neymar, Allison, Vinicius Jr, and Gabriel Jesus. With an overall strong team, Brazil is certainly a favorite in the 2022 world cup.

Spain

Spain is another team shaping up to be a decent contender in the 2022 World Cup. While the team has yet to meet up to its past standards in recent World Cup editions, this year might be different. The team has improved considerably since the last World Cup, with many young talents adding quality. Spain was able to reach the semi-finals of the Euro 2020 and even got to the final of the Nations League.

Similarly, they have excelled in their qualifying games. If these recent successes are anything to go by, we should expect a strong contender in Spain at the tournament. It's worth noting that the team's group is not the easiest as they will face the formidable German side in the opening round. Nevertheless, La Roja might just manage to scale through.

Argentina

For many people, Argentina is perhaps the top favorite for the 2022 edition of the world cup. It's easy to understand why. The sensational Lionel Messi appears to be back in top form, which is a scary prospect for any team facing Argentina in the tournament. The country also appears to have developed as a team over the past couple of years and may not need to rely on Messi.

Further contributing to the positive sentiments around Argentina's chances is the team's favorable group placement. The team would face teams like Mexico, Poland, and Saudi Arabia. While nothing is guaranteed in a competitive tournament like the World Cup, this appears to be a straightforward path to the knockout stages for Argentina. The Lionel Scaloni side may be on track to win its third World Cup this year.

Netherlands

The Netherlands would once again have the opportunity to prove itself on the big stage. With players like Virgil van Dijk and Frankie de Jong, the team certainly has the talent for a successful World Cup outing.

Furthermore, the team seems to be in top form since Louis van Gaal returned as coach. They haven’t lost a single match out of 15 played since Louis van Gaal’s return. They just might be able to ride this momentum to make it to the final.

Final Thoughts

All the teams we have discussed will certainly be exciting to watch later this month. Of course, it's difficult to predict a competitive tournament like the World Cup. As such, we might see a lot of upsets.
