The world of global football stadia presents an everchanging canvas, with a new stadium at one club or another seemingly always on the agenda – providing a hot top of conversation for fans of football grounds in general, and punters assessing the best betting sign up offers, and contemplating the affect the new venues may have on their betting decisions.
Under increasing pressure to move with the times, or simply forced into action due to the decline of the existing facilities, an expanding cast of sides all around the globe have a brand new stadium in the pipeline.
Whilst it may be many years before some of the proposed projects see the light of day, works are now well underway at many other sites. 2023 will see the debut of new stadia in nations from Algeria to the United States, with the new Arena MRV in Brazil possibly being the headline act, but here we look a little further ahead at the 5 most exciting stadiums set to open in 2024 and 2025.
Scheduled Opening: 2025
Country: United States
Team: Inter Miami CF
Capacity: 25,000
Not the biggest stadium on our list, but this new project by Inter Miami CF – part owned by David Beckham, who also acts as club president – looks set to be one of the most beautiful. Work is now underway on the former Melreese Golf Course, with the vast site set to include scenic parklands, a soccer village featuring retail and refreshment areas, and of course, the spectacular new home of the MLS side.
Scheduled Opening: 2025
Country: El Salvador
Team: El Salvador National Team
Capacity: 50,000
2025 looks set to see the El Salvador national team move around 5km to the east as they leave the 44,836-capacity Monumental Estadio Cuscatia for the brand-new Estadio Nacional. Whilst the $500m project is being managed by the Government of El Salvador, the stadium is being funded in its entirety by the Chinese Government. Boasting a 50,000 capacity, the stadium features an iconic swirling design, complete with two curving arms branching out and away from the main dome.
Scheduled Opening: 2025
Country: Serbia
Team: Serbia National Team
Capacity: 52,000
Serbia have been one of the most improved national sides in recent years, rising through the world rankings and making their presence felt at the World Cup. However, at present, they are without an official National Stadium, and currently play most of their home games at the Stadion Rajko Mitic home of Red Star Belgrade. However, all that is set to change with the building of what may become one of the most distinctive venues in the global game, featuring a tiered exterior, with three terraces containing living tree life and shrubbery.
Scheduled Opening: 2025
Country: Spain
Team: Valencia CF
Capacity: 52,000
Of the stadiums on this list, the building of the new home of Valencia has undoubtedly been the most troubled. Initially set to become the third largest stadium in Spain with an 80,000 capacity, the basic foundation of the structure has been in place since 2009, with the delay in completion being due to a combination of a tragic accident which saw four workmen lose their lives, and financial difficulties. Now set to open in 2025, the scale of the project has been reduced to a capacity of 43,000-50,000, placing it more in line with the existing Estadio Mestalla, but still representing a significantly modernised upgrade for the "Los che" faithful.
Scheduled Opening: 2024
Country: England
Team: Everton FC
Capacity: 52,888
On English shores, easily the highest profile new stadium is set to appear on Merseyside, as Everton up sticks from their traditional home of Goodison Park, to relocate to a spectacular new stadium on the banks of the Mersey. With an initial capacity of 52,888 – possibly rising to around 62,000 – the stadium has been designed by renowned US architect Dan Meis and, judging by the images of the completed project, will immediately rocket towards the top of many "must-visit" stadium lists.
