Port Vale vrs Hartlepool 1980/81. It was just after my birthday and my dad took me for the first time. We sat (on the terrace) just in front of the refreshment hut in a part of the ground that is now buried beneath the new disabled stand. I don't remember it being a particularly good game, but it was exciting all the same and I've been a fan ever since.
There are quite a few good ones but it has got to be the LDV final at the Millenium Stadium, 2-1 victory over Brentford after going a goal down - magic.
Port Vale v Hereford in the Freight Rover Trophy, 1986/87. It was a freezing cold night and I had convinced some of my (none-Vale fan) friends to come with me. Truly awful football, but thankfully we won 1-0. Incidently none of the friends came again!
Can't tell you why this is the best, but I always get excited when we go and I always thoroughly enjoy the day (even though we often lose).
The home fans were overly aggresive and in fact hostile to anyone not Welsh. I'm all for passion and patriotism, but this was borderline xenophobia - very very uncomfortable visit - will probably never go back.
